An apprentice’s journey

Lauren Rookyard is an apprentice at Ipswich Hospital. Here’s what she says: “When I started my Health and Social Care Rotational apprenticeship I knew I would get experience across different services but still wasn’t sure what it would be like.

“Doing this apprenticeship has really opened up opportunities to me that I wouldn’t normally have been able to access such as working at a hospital.

“The staff at Care Careers Suffolk were so supportive in making this apprenticeship fit in with my career aspirations of eventually becoming a nurse.

“I have, however, enjoyed my placements in rehabilitation and learning disabilities so much my next step is going to be a really difficult but exciting decision.

“I have gained so many new skills and grown in confidence, that I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone thinking of a career in care.”
