Job Title: Support Worker

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Contract: Full Time, 39 hours per work

Salary: £9.01 per hour

Who do we Support?
We require 2 full time support workers to work with adults with learning disabilities, Autism, Complex and challenging behaviours. The role will include working within 2 to 3 different supported living locations within Ipswich and a community support to give variety and to keep your mind challenged and active. We support people to live independently in their own home and give support to them to achieve, progress and remain content and happy.

 

We support:
A lady with complex behaviours who lives in her own Bungalow – she likes to spend her time mostly at home with simple pleasures such as colouring, puzzles and watching TV. She also enjoys tea and cake out at a café, fish and chips at the beach, visiting farms and Garden centres as well as a walk around a park.
We support 3 gentleman all with Autism and varied needs who share a home together. Their interests and activities include- Swimming, horse riding, cinema, playing pool, bowling, sailing, carriage riding, eating out, discos and generally being out in the community.
We support a young lady and young man both with autism who have recently moved into their first supported living address. Their areas of interest include- Film nights/cinema especially Marvel and Disney. Arts and crafts, baking, going to the gym and shopping. They will need support to understand and learn life skills such as budgeting, cooking and keeping house.
We support a gentleman in the community who can present with aggressive tendencies and struggles with anxiety. he needs someone who can offer him time, perseverance and patience and a level of understanding to his behaviours. He enjoys eating out, visiting the park for walk.

Thera Group are a charity that support people with a learning disability in the community. We want to demonstrate that people with a learning disability can be leaders in society but we can’t do this without you! We need Support Workers in the Ipswich area to make our vision a reality.

What does a Support Worker do?

The role of a Support Worker is to ensure the people we work with are safe, happy and lead fulfilling lives.
Supporting someone with a learning disability isn’t just personal care; it’s so much more. A Support Worker could be taking the people supported swimming, assisting with the weekly shop, or even helping to administer the right medication.

 

What experience do I need?

You don’t need to have worked in supported living before to be a good Support Worker. If you are caring, kind and want to work in a job that is genuinely rewarding, this is for you.
You’ll need to have great communication skills and be comfortable making decisions. A basic level of English and Math is also required.
